Deciding what kind of PC you need depends entirely on what you plan to use it for.  In deciding if a mini PC is the way to go or not, reflect on your purposes.  What will you primarily be using the computer for?  Internet searches? Email? Video streaming? Bookkeeping? Gaming?  Listing your priorities can help you choose which machine is best for you.  If those priorities shift later, you can always add additional features.

Advantages
  • Minis are easy to carry and travel with. Their lightness makes them akin to a notebook or book rather than a bulky laptop.  Thus, they’re a good choice if you do a lot of business travelling and you could use them to keep up with excel documents in the cloud.
  • The efficient size can also make work feel more accessible; you may find yourself getting tasks done more quickly and productively on a smaller computer.
  • It’s easier to take notes if you’re in college or at a business meeting.

Disadvantages
  • You can’t play CDs or DVDs (although you can stream most music and video from the web).
  • The hardware speed can be slower overall (not ideal for Photoshop usage or gaming).
  • Storage space is less than a larger PC.

If you need a computer for easy typing and tasks that don’t take up a lot of storage space (office documents, such as Word or Excel; internet activities, such as email, that uses its own storage space), a mini could be the way to go.  If you want to do loftier tasks that require more RAM, such as video editing, or if you’re going to use your PC for entertainment more than work and want to play CDs or DVDs, a larger PC would be the way to go.
